Focus On These Areas
When providing ample lighting in your bathrooms, you should focus on highlighting these three main areas. If you focus on these specific areas, we’re sure it’ll be easier to find bathroom lighting solutions that are functional, efficient and beautiful.
Your Ceiling
First and foremost, ceiling-mounted lights and recessed lighting fixtures make for wonderful overhead lighting in general. In order to provide elegant ambient lighting to the room, we recommend focusing on choosing effective and adjustable ceiling bathroom lighting.
Vanity Area
Think about the area where you spend a good majority of your time in your bathroom — your vanity area. Whether you’re brushing your teeth, shaving your face or putting on makeup, you want enough lighting to perform these tasks in a well-lit area.
We recommend placing a light fixture above your vanity mirror and a wall sconce on both sides of it for the most optimal lighting situation.
Shower/Tub Area
Last but not least, don’t forget to light your shower and tub area(s). If you currently bathe yourself in a dark lit area, you’ll be amazed at what lighting your bathing spaces can do. Use more than just one light in these areas — oftentimes, homeowners think just one light is enough.
Putting your safety first, make sure the bathroom lights you choose are either damp-location or wet-location type of lighting fixtures, and also ensure that you install them directly above your head.
Don’t Make These Mistakes
Sometimes, when it comes to finding proper bathroom lighting, it’s not about knowing what to do, but rather, what not to do! When you’re searching for your favorite new bathroom lights, avoid making these three common mistakes.
Not Enough Lighting
This is the reason we’re writing this blog post — most homeowners make the mistake of not installing sufficient amounts of lighting in their bathrooms! If you’re unsure if your bathroom has enough lighting or not, take pictures and bring them to our in-store lighting experts. From there, we can come up with ideal, personalized lighting solutions for your individual space!
Light That Points Directly Downwards
Except for in your bath/shower areas, you never want your bathroom lighting to point directly downward from the ceiling. This creates harsh, unflattering lighting that can be avoided. Instead, install your lighting to where it’s lighting you from behind rather than from in front or above.
Asymmetrical Lighting
You want to make sure any lighting you set up in your bathroom in symmetrical. For example, installing just one wall sconce on a side of your vanity mirror is a rookie mistake. This type of lighting will cast weird shadows and create uneven illumination, making any tasks you perform in front of your mirror more difficult.
